Excerpts From:
"A PATHWAY TO DESTRUCTION"
By Stephen M. Kahn,
Ph.D.
From Chapter One
With his work done, the man returns to the truck and slowly
drives back the way that he came. It doesn't take long
before he reaches a small sleepy town and stops at a cafe
for a meal. When finished, he returns to his truck and
drives out of town but decides to stop after going a few
miles. Reaching into his glove box, he takes out a few
pieces of jewelry and a driver's license that depicts a
young woman's face. The man examines all the items before
returning them to their hiding place and wonders how long it
will take for anyone to find the body that was just buried.
He would consider himself lucky if the corpse was never
found and his involvement with this incident remained secret
forever.
From Chapter Five
If he was caught, at the very least, a charge of
manslaughter would send him away to a Mexican prison for
many years and was far worse than anything experienced in a
U.S. penitentiary. Terry found a blanket in the bedroom,
covered the body and systematically went about the apartment
wiping any objects that he might have touched.
From Chapter
Twelve
Agent Borden had spent two days in San Francisco explaining
to his supervisors why this one particular suspect had not
been apprehended after so many weeks. He detailed every step
taken by his agents and confidently told the convening board
that finding a single person was extremely difficult.
Several of the board members had been through similar
manhunts and knew about the problems in conducting a search
and were inclined to deal leniently with their man in
charge. Borden was given two more months to capture Livorney
or he would be replaced. Being under a deadline did not
deter the agent since he was very certain that the case
would come to a successful conclusion very soon. After the
meeting, he returned to the border and conferred with his
Canadian counterparts over the best way to track their man
down.
