Excerpts From:
"A PASSION
FOR CRIME: The Life of a Career Criminal"
By Stephen M. Kahn,
Ph.D.
From Chapter Two
As the years
went by, I became very good at committing petty crimes but
they weren't really paying enough for my satisfaction. Now
that I was twelve, my tastes had changed and acquiring
little worthless items were no consolation. What I craved
was better clothes and games but they cost a lot of money.
My stealing of little trinkets or small change was not
providing satisfaction any more. I had to figure out some
way to obtain larger amounts of money. Avoiding the stealing
of expensive items was smart since it would be very hard to
sell them without arousing suspicions. Who would believe
that a young boy could have come by these things honestly? I
wanted money and the only way to get it was by committing a
robbery or a burglary. A robbery would not be easy because
of the chance that someone would run after me. Although at
my age, I was a lot stronger and faster , it would be
difficult to fend off a grown man. That meant that my
chances of capture were very high and I didn't want to face
a judge in court. That left me with one option; burglary,
which would be done in homes when no one was there.
From Chapter Six
My sexual
longings had become incredibly powerful for Susan and were
starting to dominate my thoughts. I had to have her
regardless of how she felt. I was sure that she wanted me
but was probably too shy about making it known. I believed
that this
was a good a time as any to make my play and give her a
great time. While thinking about my next move, I kept
guiding her deeper into the park until no one could be seen
in any direction. Susan didn't seem concerned. about our
location and just
kept on chatting with me. Now I was totally convinced that
she had the same thoughts as I did. i finally stopped
walking and
sat down with her on a grassy area surrounded by bushes and
trees. There was no fear in her eyes as I took her face in
my
hands and brought it close to me. Not feeling any
resistance, I kissed her and then started bringing our
bodies closer
together until we touched.
From Chapter Fifteen
The two of
them had spent a good amount of cash on food, drink and a
few purchases so funds were getting low. I was in the same
boat, and our discussion turned to what to do about it.
Months had passed since our last job and things might have
quieted down enough for another job. Industrial areas and
houses had been very good to us and there was no reason to
change our pattern. All we needed was a little twist that
would prevent the cops from connecting everything together.
We needed to think about doing something different that
would still make use of our existing talents and decided to
meet again in a few days to compare notes at that time.
Roger still had the car so our mobility was assured although
the same vehicle could be recognized and connected to a
prior crime. We would have to deal with that problem at
another time but right now, other aspects of our next job
had to be worked out.
